Be Prepared for Cold and Flu Season

Be Prepared for Cold and Flu Season

It’s that time of year again, days are getting cooler and with that comes the beginning of another round of colds and flus to contend with.

This year why not get a head start on supporting your immune system and reducing your susceptibility to catching cold and flu viruses, all without the need for conventional over the counter decongestants, time off work, or the conventional flu vaccine?

For the last five years, Lakeside has been opening its doors to the public for an alternative to the flu vaccine.  Dubbed the ‘alternative flu shot’, this safe, gentle and highly effective homeopathic immune boosting formula, given either as an injection or orally, has been clinically effective at strengthening overall immune function and reducing the severity of cold and flu symptoms.  Learn more about our flu program by clicking here.

Other tips to avoid the flu?  Eat a wide variety of colourful veggies and fruits, eliminate foods high in refined sugar, aim to have at least 8 hours of restful sleep each night and make time for joyful activities to reduce daily stress levels.  If needed, vitamin C and zinc can be helpful in rapidly increasing your immune system’s response to a new ‘bug’.

Our Mississauga Naturopathic Doctors Dr. Jessica Liu and Dr. Jen Newell also recommend a tried and true immune tonic that the entire family can use:

In a mason jar, add:

  • 4-5 garlic cloves
  • 4-5 slices of ginger root
  • juice and skins of a whole lemon
  • To this, add honey to cover half of this mixture
  • Fill the remaining portion of this mixture with apple cider vinegar
  • Shake to incorporate all the ingredients and refrigerate.

Take a spoonful of this immune tonic several times a week during the cold and flu season or whenever you are feeling run down!
